At SwiftRadius, we believe that our clients should implement software solutions with a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) focus, factoring in all of the costs and risks that can be predicted throughout the lifecycle of the product. Open source solutions should be treated no differently, and can deliver compelling value in some (but not all) cases. We understand open source, including its benefits and potential pitfalls.
Many of the innovations in the software community today have been driven from the open source community, and SwiftRadius is active in that community. We use a number of open source Java technologies including Spring framework, Hibernate, Ant, JUnit and various open source databases.
There are increasingly high quality open-source tools available for the .Net platform as well, and we have successfully used tools such as Nant, NUnit, and CruiseControl.Net.
Settle
We at SwiftRadius are also open source contributors, by virtue of our Settle application.
This is a Java-based Time and Expense management system that we use to manage our business. We have released this application under the LGPL, such that others might be able to observe a non-trivial example of our work. We have also received training and recruiting benefits by releasing this application.
